I have to admit I'm a person who worries a lot. The devastation in Japan was horrible when it happened but the worst part is that people are still suffering and worrying about the nuclear power threat.

I agree with you so much about Japan. It is heartbreaking and overwhelming. Yes, when our homes are totally destroyed, there's not much we can do. Although I think for my family about the medium quakes, aftershocks and what I can do. My decision was to get furniture straps. After being in quakes, when it hits it's hard to move. And if one of my children or grandchildren are in front of a falling tv or china cabinet, they could be crushed. So, I hope that helps everyone think of all possibilities. Thank goodness for more people preparing as best we can.

I would just like to thank you for keeping this blog and writing such inspiring texts.
I "accidently" stumbled upon this very post while surfing the internet. I was in search for some info about "cards" as I am about to make/publish a deck of -let's call them personal growth- cards when I found this post. I will not even mention all the coicidences I find right here...I am just amazed and pleased to be in such state of allowing right now, to be able to attract this.
This note is a little thank you note to the Universe, acknowledging the beauty of everything existing and a thank you note to you, letting you know that your posts make changes, influence people and convey messages.

If I admitted how often I think about disasters you'd probably call the authorities. I have a particular hang up about (bear with me here) if things got so bad that the streets were lawless and we survived but society was in total decay and we had to forage for necessities. I actually have moments of panic because I don't know how to tan a hyde or start a fire with nothing but twigs and broken eyeglasses.

I can't even face the totality of the devastation in Japan. It crushes me. And I agree with Courtney, prayers are inadequate for Japan but I don't know what else to do.

when i'm frustrated with some moment of 'non-compliance' from my boy i use some of the same logic - like i'd rather be dealing with him jumping out of his crib 50 times in an hour at 9 pm than be worrying about him out cruising with his teenage friends...and i'm sure i'll have some other rationale device in place by the time that happens...
feeling like prayers are inadequate for the situation in Japan...

If I remember correctly BHB is a couple of weeks older than my Chicharín and he's doing the same "I'll walk, heck! I'll even run... as long as you hold my hand" thing so I know the pain in the... back you have now.

I've been hearing The Speech for some months now so I can only offer you my sympathies because I know how that is.

Your switch plan is good. Here's my usual hippie-dippie answer. (You love me, right?) I like to think about what kids are doing in terms of schema. Schemas are a way of thinking about patterns in children's play. Like, if your kid is always throwing. Usually this is about exploring trajectory (movement of things and self). So, in every area of play, you work on trajectory. Help him make things fly through the air. Pushing cars off tables. Flicking/throwing paint. Paper airplanes. Lots of physically active play with throwing. Pouring and sprinkling. Banging and hammering. Knocking down blocks or sand castles. Using the hose. Use lots of language to support what he's doing. Trajectory schema is the best!
